Prabhas (born 23 October 1979) is a prominent Indian actor primarily working in Telugu cinema. Known as the “Rebel Star” and “Darling,” he is among the highest-paid actors in Indian cinema and has been featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2015. He has received several accolades, including seven Filmfare Awards nominations, a Nandi Award, and a SIIMA Award.
Early Life and Education
Prabhas was born in Madras (now Chennai) to film producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju and Siva Kumari. He is the youngest of three children, with an elder brother, Prabodh, and an elder sister, Pragathi. His uncle, Krishnam Raju, is also a noted actor in Telugu cinema. Prabhas attended Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai and DNR High School in Bhimavaram. He pursued his intermediate education at Nalanda College, Hyderabad, and later earned a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree from Sri Chaitanya College, Hyderabad. He also trained at Satyanand Film Institute in Visakhapatnam.
Acting Career
2002–2011: Early Career and Breakthrough
Prabhas made his acting debut with the 2002 film Eeswar. He gained widespread recognition with Varsham (2004), followed by successful films like Chatrapathi (2005), Bujjigadu (2008), Billa (2009), Darling (2010), Mr. Perfect (2011), and Mirchi (2013), for which he won the Nandi Award for Best Actor.
2015–2017: Baahubali and Pan-Indian Success
Prabhas’s career reached new heights with his dual roles in Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). These films received national and international acclaim, breaking numerous box office records and establishing him as a pan-Indian star. Baahubali 2 became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, grossing over ₹1,000 crore within ten days. Prabhas won the SIIMA Award for Best Actor – Telugu for his performance in the sequel.
