Pankaj Tripathi (born 5 September 1975 or 1976) is an acclaimed Indian actor primarily known for his work in Hindi films. He has received numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.

Early Life and Education

Born in Belsand village, Gopalganj District, Bihar, Pankaj Tripathi was the youngest of four children. His father, Pandit Benares Tiwari, was a farmer and Hindu priest. Originally named Tiwari, he changed his last name to Tripathi in ninth grade. After high school, he studied at the Institute of Hotel Management, Hajipur, and later graduated from the National School of Drama in 2004.

Career

Early Career (2004–2016)
Tripathi moved to Mumbai in 2004 and began with minor roles in films like Run (2004) and TV series such as Powder (2010). He gained recognition for his role in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He continued to play supporting roles in films like Fukrey (2013), Masaan (2015), and Nil Battey Sannata (2016).

Rise to Fame (2017–present)
Tripathi’s breakthrough came with the neo-noir thriller Gurgaon (2017), followed by notable roles in Bareilly Ki Barfi, Newton (2017), and Stree (2018). His performance in Newton won him a National Film Award – Special Mention.

In 2018, he starred in the Tamil film Kaala and the web series Mirzapur, earning widespread acclaim. He continued to appear in successful films like Luka Chuppi (2019), Super 30 (2019), and the Hollywood film Extraction (2020).

Tripathi received critical acclaim for his roles in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) and Ludo (2020), earning dual Filmfare nominations. His role in Mimi (2021) won him both the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2023, he starred in OMG 2 and Fukrey 3. He will next portray former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the biographical drama Main Atal Hoon, set to release on 19 January 2024.

Personal Life and Public Image

Pankaj Tripathi is celebrated for his versatility and authentic portrayal of characters. He is also the brand ambassador for Bharat Rang Mahotsav (National Theatre Festival) for 2024.
