Anushka Sharma (born 1 May 1988) is a prominent Indian actress in Hindi cinema. She has won several accolades, including a Filmfare Award. As of 2018, she is among the highest-paid actresses in India and has been listed in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 since 2012. Forbes Asia also featured her in their 30 Under 30 list in 2018.

Early Life and Modelling Career
Anushka Sharma was born in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, and raised in Bangalore. Her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, is an army officer, and her mother, Ashima Sharma, is a homemaker. Her elder brother, Karnesh Sharma, is a film producer. Anushka’s upbringing as a military brat significantly influenced her personality. She attended Army School in Bangalore and later graduated with a degree in arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

Initially aspiring to be a model or journalist, Sharma moved to Mumbai after graduation to pursue modelling. She debuted at the Lakme Fashion Week for designer Wendell Rodricks and went on to model for brands like Silk & Shine and Whisper. During her modelling career, she also joined an acting school and began auditioning for film roles.

Acting Career
Breakthrough (2008–2013)
Anushka Sharma made her acting debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2008 romantic film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Her performance garnered positive reviews and earned her Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Female Debut. She then starred in the crime-comedy Badmaash Company (2010) and gained wider recognition with Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), for which she received her second Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.

In 2011, Sharma appeared in Patiala House and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. She continued her success with a supporting role in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Established Actress and Producer (2014–2016)
In 2014, Sharma starred in PK, the highest-grossing Bollywood film at the time. She launched her production company, Clean Slate Filmz, and produced NH10 (2015), where she also played the lead role. Her performance received critical acclaim and established her as a serious actress and producer.

Sharma’s 2015 film Bombay Velvet was a commercial failure, but she rebounded with Dil Dhadakne Do (2015). In 2016, she starred in the blockbuster Sultan, portraying a wrestler. Her role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) further solidified her status as one of Bollywood’s leading actresses.

Hiatus and Recent Work
After the poorly received Zero (2018), Sharma took a break from acting. She focused on her production company, producing successful projects like the web series Paatal Lok (2020). She is also the ambassador for several brands and has her clothing line, Nush.

Personal Life
Anushka Sharma married cricketer Virat Kohli, and the couple has two children. She actively supports various causes, including gender equality and animal rights.
